Should a configurator be embedded or use its own page?
Compare iframe and direct-page configurator integration through navigation, resizing, consent, enquiry attribution and safe cross-window communication.
Table of contents
A configurator can be presented inside an existing website or through a dedicated application page. The right choice depends on the customer journey, integration boundaries and operating responsibilities. Compare the full experience rather than choosing an iframe simply because it is quick to place on a page.
Define what the surrounding website must know
The host page may need to resize the application, open a particular product or record that an enquiry was completed. The configurator may need brand context or an authorized account connection. List those interactions and agree their data formats.
For cross-window messages, validate the expected origin. MDN documentation.
| Integration area | Test to include |
|---|---|
| Navigation | Back, reload and direct product links |
| Responsive layout | Height changes and mobile controls |
| Account context | Authorized identity and permitted records |
| Enquiries | Receiving record and source attribution |
| Privacy choices | Agreed coordination between website and application |
Test the transitions customers actually make
Open the configurator from a product page, save a selection and return through a shared link. Check whether the user reaches the intended product and whether the surrounding navigation remains understandable. Test keyboard movement into and out of an embedded application.
Also inspect error states. An integration should not leave a large empty rectangle when the application is unavailable. Agree how the website explains the problem and offers another contact route.
Give each team a clear support boundary
Your website agency and application supplier may maintain separate releases. Record who investigates layout, sign-in, analytics and submission problems. Include the information each team needs to diagnose a failed handoff without sharing unrelated customer data.
A dedicated page can simplify some responsibilities, while embedding may fit a particular journey. Neither arrangement automatically resolves branding, security or operational ownership.
Scope the Configurix website connection
For a headless or embedded Configurix implementation, provide the current website structure and required interactions. Ask for a working integration using representative navigation, account and enquiry scenarios. Confirm the deployment arrangement supported by the actual proposal.
Does an iframe remove integration work?
No. Placement is only one task. Responsive behaviour, customer navigation, permissions and reliable enquiry handling still need agreement and testing.
Must the application and website use the same supplier?
No. Separate teams can deliver a coherent experience when they share a clear interface contract and an agreed support process.
